Anton Liska and Marie/Mary Urban / Himer
Anton Liska is the brother of: John Liska Sr., who married Julia Lhota; Veronica Liska who married Wenzel Wopat, and later married Martin Pallan; and Frances Liska who married Anton Tauber and later married John Krtezius. Anton Liska is also the brother of Josepha or Josephine Liska. Only her birth record has been found so far.
Based on his obituary, Anton Liska was born November 21, 1839, in Kralovice, at # 185, Pilsen, Bohemia (now Czech Republic). His father was Wenzel Liska. His mother was Alzabetha Marik/Marek. In 2012 I found his Czech church birth and baptism record confirming this.
Anton's father, Wenzel, died in 1866 in Kralovice. Anton came to the United States in 1868, with his brother John Liska Sr. and his mother Elizabeth. They arrived in New York City on May 11, 1868 aboard the ship Deutschland.
Sometime before 1874, Anton married Mary/Marie Urban or Hammer or Himmer. We speculate that this was in Iowa, as their eldest son, Anton Jr. was born in Iowa in 1874. No 1870 Census record has been found so far.
Anton's wife - we have three records with three different names. The Wisconsin Death Index lists her maiden name as Urban. The Marriage Index of daughter Minnie Liska lists her mother's maiden name as Hammer. There is also the 1880 Census record for Anton and Mary, which includes two women staying with them: Cathern Urbin, grandmother, Annie Hemer, mother in law.
By 1880, Anton, Marie, Anton Jr. and a second son, Hubert, were living in Greenwood Township, Vernon County, Wisconsin.
Anton and Marie would have three more children, born in Wisconsin, Matilda, Minnie, and Arthur.
The last known Wisconsin Record for Anton Sr. is the 1905 Wisconsin Census. In that census he is living with, or on the farm next to, his oldest son Anton Jr., his wife Annie and two children, Laura and Elsie.
Anton Sr. would marry, live and have children in Iowa and Wisconsin, he would die in the Chicago residence of his sister, Veronica Liska Wopat Pallan, 1415 South 41st Avenue on October 16, 1906.. His wife Mary/Marie would also die in 1906. Something which still needs to be worked on is the Mary Liska information posted at familysearch.org from the system Wisconsin-Easy, source film number 1311659, reference number p399cn41, which lists Mary Urban Liska, died 3 December 1906, death place - Greenwood, Wisconsin, Age 52, birthplace Bohemia, widowed, spouse name Anton Liske, father's name Joe Urban - Bohemia, mother's name - Anna Urban - Bohemia.
